My approach to therapy is directive. I believe in being genuine with my clients and giving honest feedback while being supportive and encouraging. Psyche, LLC's "Do Something Different" philosophy is reflective of this view. I find that the old joke about the definition of insanity being "Doing the same things over and over and expecting a different outcome" is often true. Many times it takes an outside observer to identify patterns of behavior and thought that just aren't working well. A thorough understanding of the issue is the first step in resolution.
This directive approach involves homework assignments. Much like sticking to a diet after getting the plan from your doctor, active involvement between sessions is necessary. Treatment is always time-limited. My goal is NOT for you to be in therapy forever, but to gain skills in order to eventually "be your own therapist."
I also believe in implementing the latest treatment strategies and keeping myself abreast of the research. I take my responsibilty to the client seriously and educate myself regularly. My client's receive individualized treatment plans based on their unique needs while adhering to Cognitive-Behavioral theory. |
